Sabra Dipping Company’s LEED Gold Certified Processing Facility in South Chesterfield, VA has won a National Award of Merit in the Industrial/Process/Research Facilities category from the Design-Build Institute of America.

The Design-Build Institute of America annually recognizes exemplary Design-Build Done Right project delivery, resulting in highly successful projects that achieve best value while meeting design and construction quality, cost, and schedule goals. Along with meeting these initial goals, winning projects must also demonstrate advanced and innovative application of total integrated project delivery, utilizing design-build best practices to achieve exceptional outcomes.

In response to rapid category growth, Sabra, producer of America’s top-selling hummus, partnered with Dennis Group on a fast-track, 16-month, 106,475 square foot expansion to double production capacity at their South Chesterfield facility.

The project team designed a truly unique facility that seamlessly blended the expansion with the original building, adhered to the latest food safety standards, and achieved LEED Gold New Construction Certification, a first for a manufacturer in Virginia, while avoiding operational disruptions.

“We collectively are very proud of this project, says Sabra Senior Director of Global Engineering Willie Johnson. “Our core team, consisting of Dennis Group and Sabra members, was together from the very earliest planning stages all the way through the commissioning of the expansion project. Every challenge, and there were several, was tackled jointly as a team. We all had the same shared goal to deliver an exceptional building.”

As a National Award of Merit winner, the project is automatically a nominee for the National Award of Excellence in the Industrial/Process/Research Facilities category, the highest honor within each category.

Celebrating its thirtieth anniversary, Dennis Group has provided professional services to most of the 100 largest food companies in the United States as well as hundreds of smaller private companies and start-ups. The company recently bolstered its expansion efforts with the opening of a new office in São Paulo, Brazil, and Porto, Portugal, which will cater to the growing South American and European markets.
